Bitsy Bunny – Free Online Crochet Pattern

What you need….

  • Worsted Weight #4 Yarn, Choose your preferred colour
  • For Eyes
    • Black Safety Eyes 6 mm
      or
    • Embriodery Thread and Needle, colours of thread is your choice.
  • For Nose
    • Black or pink, embroidery thread or thin yarn
  • Crochet Hook Size 4.00 mm
  • Tapestry Needle for sewing the pieces together

Crochet Pattern Abbreviations

ch = chain
chsp = chain space
sc = single crochet
hdc = double crochet
dc = double crochet
tc = triple crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sts = stitches
inc = increase; two single crochet stitches in one chain
dec = decrease; create one stitch from two chains (pull yarn through first chain, then pull yarn through second chain, and then pull yarn through all three loops to create one chain from the previous rows two chains

** = repeat instructions enclosed within the asterisk the number of times indicated in the row being worked
Unless otherwise noted: Continue working in round from previous row

Arms (x2)

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
R2-R6: *sc in next chsp* repeat 6 times (6 sts)
Do not stuff
Squeeze edges close and sc both sides together to close arm (3 sc)
Fasten off leaving a tail for stitching onto the body.

Legs (x2)

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
R2: *inc in next chsp, sc in the next 2 chsp* repeat 2 times (8 sts)
R3-R6: *sc in next chsp* repeat 8 times (8 sts)          
Lightly stuff
Squeeze edges close and sc both sides together to close leg (4 sc)
Fasten off leaving a tail for stitching onto the body.

Tail

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
R2: *sc in next chsp* repeat 6 times (6 sts)
Tie off and leave end to sew onto body.

Body

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
R2: * inc in each chsp * repeat 6 times (12 sts)
R3:  * sc in next 2 chsp, inc in next chsp * repeat 4 times  (16 sts)
R4-5:
 *sc in next chsp* repeat 16 times (16 sts)
R6:  *dec, sc in next 2 chsp * repeat 4 times (12 sts)
R7:  sc in each chsp (12 sts)
Stuff body as you continue
R8: *dec * repeat 6 times (6 sts)
R9: *sc in next chsp* repeat 6 times (6 sts)
Tie off and leave end to sew onto head.

Head

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
R2: *inc in next  chsp * 6 times (12 sts)
R3: *inc in next chsp, sc in next chsp * 6 times (18 sts)
R4-R7: *sc in next chsp * 18 times ( 18 sts)

If you are using safety eyes, add safety eyes now:
Between row 4 & row 5, approximately 4 – 5 stitches apart

R8: *dec in next chsp, sc in next chsp * 6 times (12 sts)
R9: *sc in next chsp* repeat 12 times (12 sts )

add stuffing

R10: *dec in next sc* 6 times (6 sts)

Close off and leave tail to sew head to body.

If you used safety eyes, you can add the nose in now:

Using pink or black yarn, sew a nose between the eyes,
starting on row 5 down to row 7, also a little mouth from the
middle of the nose, down one row, see photo for example.

Ears ( x2 )

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
R2: *inc* repeat 6 times (12 sts)
R3: *sc in next chsp, inc* repeat 6  times ( 18 sts )
R4: *sc in each chsp* repeat 18 times (18 sts )
R5: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 16 times (17 sts)
R6: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 15 times (16 sts)
R7: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 14 times (15 sts)
R8: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 13 times (14 sts)
R9: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 12 times (13 sts)
R10: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 11 times (12 sts)
R11: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 10 times (11 sts)
R12: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 9 times (10 sts)
R13: dec, *sc in each chsp* repeat 8 times ( 9 sts)

Embroidering Eyes

Sew ears onto the head onto row 2 from the top

  • From third row working down to the mouth, create the pupils
  • Change colour, and create the second row of detail
  • Change colour, and create the third row detail
  • Change to white, create the last row detail and you can choose where you would like to put the eye reflection, use example from chart above or from photos below.
  • Add the nose
    With pink or black thread, create a little triangle between the eyes, and a little vertical line from the bottom of the triangle 1 row, see photo for example.

Sew Pieces Together

See photos for visual description for placement of parts.

Sew legs directly across from the body, up from the bottom on approx. row 4

Sew arms onto the sides of the body, close to the opening of the body, aligned with the legs

Sew tail onto the center of the back of the bunny, between the legs centered on approx. row 4

Sew ears onto the head onto row 2 from the top (if you have used safety eyes)
Sew the head onto the body.
