What you need….

  • Worsted Weight #4 Yarn
    • White for ghost, arms and wings
    • Black for bee bottom, stripes and legs
    • Yellow for stripes
  • For Eyes
    • Safety eyes
  • For Mouth and Stinger
    • Embroidery Thread and Needle
  • Crochet Hook Size 4.00 mm
  • Stuffing

Crochet Pattern Abbreviations

ch = chain
chsp = chain space
sc = single crochet
hdc = double crochet
dc = double crochet
tc = triple crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sts = stitches
inc = increase; two single crochet stitches in one chain
dec = decrease; create one stitch from two chains (pull yarn through first chain, then pull yarn through second chain, and then pull yarn through all three loops to create one chain from the previous rows two chains

Unless otherwise noted: Continue working in round from previous row



Arms and legs   (x2 white yarn plus x2 black yarn)

Create two with black yarn and two with white yarn total 4 pieces.
R1: chain 7, hdc in the third chsp from the hook, slip stitch in the same chsp, then slip stitch each stitch back to the beginning
Trim yarn and pull through

Bee Bottom

** Each row will end with a  slip stich close and a chain one before the next row begins**
Starting with Black

R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring, sl st to join the row (6 sts)
R2: Chain one,  * inc in each chsp* repeat 6 times , sl st to join the row  (12 sts)

Change to Yellow:
R3:
Change colour to yellow, chain one, *sc in next chsp, inc in next chsp* repeat 6 times, slip stitch to join the row (18 sts)

Change to Black:
R4:
 Change colour to black, chain one, *sc in each chsp* repeat 18 times, slip stitch to join the row (18 sts)

Change to Yellow:
R5:
Change colour to yellow, chain one, *sc in each chsp* repeat 18 times, slip stitch to join the row (18 sts)

Change to Black:
R6:
 Change colour to black, chain one, *sc in each chsp* repeat 18 times, slip stitch to join the row (18 sts)

Change to Yellow:
R7:
Change colour to yellow, chain one, *sc in each chsp* repeat 18 times, slip stitch to join the row (18 sts)
Fasten off



Add feet and stinger to bottom part of the bee

On row three, 7 stitches apart, pull the two lose ends of the black feet through the stitches and tie the loose ends together to secure.

To add the stinger. Fold the bee body in half, on the opposite side of the feet, between row one and row two in the middle of the horizontal stitches, knot the thread to one of the stitches, the cut the thread approximately .25 – .5 inches from the body ( You decide what size the stinger can be )

Wings

With white yarn:

Chain 15 st, two double crochets into the 4th chain space from the hook, half double crochet

in the next chain space, single crochet in the next 8 chain spaces, half double crochet in

the next chain space, 5 double crochets in the next chain space (continue in the round) Half double crochet in the next chain space, single crochet in the next 8 chain spaces, half double

crochet in the next chain space, 3 double crochets in the next chain space, slip stitch close and

tie off. Weave the ends into the center in the wings to prepare to the body of the ghost.



Upper body of Bee (Ghost Part)

Using white, work in the round
R1: 6 sc in Magic Ring (6 sts)
R2: * inc in each chsp * repeat 6 times (12 sts)
R3:  * sc in next chsp, inc in next chsp * repeat 6 times  (18 sts)
R4-9:  * sc in next chsp * repeat 18  times  (18 sts)

** Leave the loop ready to continue the wavey ghost edge below **

Add the safety eyes

Add safety eyes between row 4 and row 5, 4 stitches apart

Embroider the mouth

Using black embroidery thread, create a mouth, any shape you want, two rows lower than the eyes

Add on the arms

On the 8th row from the top approximately 7 stitches apart, pull through the ends of the arms and tie them securely inside the body

Sew on the wings

On the back of the bee, 6 rows from the top, centered in the back of the ghost body, pull through the ends of the wings and secure in place.



Wavey Ghost Edge

Working in the front loop of the chain, for the next complete round, * 3 double crochets in the next chain space, slip stitch in the next chain space * repeat 9 times, slip stitch to close ( 36 sts )

Sewing the pieces together

Align the bottom and the top of the bee, and using the back loop of the chain from the ghost (upper bee section ) sew the top piece and the bottom piece of the bee together, leaving some space to stuff the belly.

After stuffing the belly, continue to sew the pieces together, complete a second round to ensure the top and the bottom are securely attached. Weave ends and cut all loose threads.
